DO
NOT REMOVE BRANCH COLLARS OR LEAVE STUBS
*Money
is wasted when branches are pruned incorrectly.
* Painting will not help. Wound dressings do
not stop rot.
* Incorrect pruning starts a long list of costly
problems.
(Cankers, Sun Scald, Frost Cracks, Insect Borers.)
PRUNE
BRANCHES CORRECTLY
*
First, make cuts as close to the collar as possible
without cutting into the collar. (The collar
is the bulged area out from the trunk, which
is part of the trunk, that holds the limb in
place.)
* A "doughnut" or circle of callus
will form around correct cuts.
WHEN
HIRING A TREE CARE SERVICE Check
with past customers, the word of mouth is usually
the best advertisement. Next is the affiliations
that they belong to is important. (that means
that when something new comes along, new advancements
in the field of arboriculture, the tree affiliated
people are on top of the situation.) Like painting
tree wounds, that practice is gone for about two
years now. (but people are still doing it.) Also
the affiliations are:
Wisconsin Arborist Association.
International Society of Arboriculture
These are just two of the many different ones
that are for the betterment of trees.
P.S. Keep in mind that when checking with past
customers look at the type of work that was done
to the trees. Was it done correctly?
